How to Present a Slideshow
Slideshows can be viewed on any device used to access the web. There is no extra software to install or any setup necessary.
Open a slideshow by clicking the “Slideshow” link from the page used to view the book or lesson plan.
Slideshow Settings
The following slideshow settings are managed from your profile page in the dashboard:
- Slideshow Theme
- Slideshow Content (display all content or limited sections)
- Slideshow Lists (display all at once or one at a time)
Slide Navigation and Features
Slide controls (arrows) are shown on the lower right-hand corner of the screen:
- The left and right arrows cycle through the main sections (used to skip sections).
- The up and down arrows cycle through the content of each section (normal viewing mode).
Note: The keyboard arrows perform the same function.
When no further main sections or pages are available, the navigation buttons are disabled. Page numbers are displayed to help you keep track.

Blackboard Drawings
Note: To open the chalkboard view, press “B” or the icon on the bottom left.
The blackboard feature lets you take a break from the presentation and draw with chalk. You can open and close the chalkboard from any slide.
Tips:
- Use the up and down arrows to cycle between chalkboards.
- Press the delete key (“DEL”) to remove the last drawn segment.
- Right-click and hold to use the eraser tool.
- All drawings are erased after the slideshow is closed.
Speaker’s View/Notes
Note: Press “S” or the icon on the bottom left to open the speaker’s view in a separate browser window. Popup blockers must be disabled.
The speaker’s notes panel is designed for use when multiple monitors are available. Several display options are available, and they can be selected from the top right-hand corner of the window.
Details provided by default in the presenter’s window:
- Time elapsed
- Current time
- A preview of the upcoming slide
- Speaker notes (references, examples, and notes taken from My CFI Book)
The speaker’s notes panel displays supplementary material from My CFI Book instead of including it in the slideshow. Any line of text that begins with “Note(s):” or “Reference(s):” or “Example(s):” will be shown in the speaker’s notes. See the following example.
Note: This message will appear in the speaker’s view but not in the slideshow.
Offline Slideshows
Slideshows are web-based and require an internet connection to load. However, once the slideshow is open in the web browser, no further internet connection is required to transition between the slides.
Note: If you have more than one slideshow to present offline, consider opening multiple browser tabs. Do not turn off the computer or close the browser windows until the presentation is complete.
Some browsers allow you to save web pages for offline use. The steps are generally to choose “File” and “Save Page As…” and then select “Web page, complete” to download the HTML file and its images. This method saves a copy of the slideshow, which is completely independent of the live website.
How to Create a Slideshow
Any page from My CFI Book can be viewed as a slideshow (except for some documents in the Instructor Resources, Appendix, and Supplements chapters). The slideshow content is taken from My CFI Book and automatically updated when changes are made to the book.
Using a Lesson Plan
When a lesson plan is viewed as a slideshow, the content selected from My CFI Book is shown on the screen. The lesson plan itself (Introduction, Objectives, etc.) is not shown. It is recommended to have a printed copy of the lesson plan to introduce and follow along with the slideshow.
